It’s a new year in Minnesota high school football with scheduling. Conferences are gone, and now schedules are done regionally. It’s a combined effort to keep games competitive but at the same time, limit traveling expenses for schools. So instead of previewing districts this year, here is a look at how Class 6A could shake out based on last year’s state tournament teams.

It’s starting to feel like summer with the sun out and daily highs getting into the 80s. That also translates to perfect baseball weather. It couldn’t come at a better time as the state’s top high school teams travel across various sites in Minnesota for their perspective state tournaments.
All three Minnesota high school baseball champions have returned to the state tournament to defend titles from last season. New Life Academy of Woodbury in Class 1A, St. Cloud Cathedral in Class 2A and Mounds View in Class 3A are back in their respective brackets, all as the top seed. This is the 16th year of the three-class format.
We have a state tournament field set in boys tennis for both teams and individuals in Class A and AA. The next tournament to be figured it will be in baseball, where section playoffs are well underway and state teams will be decided across Minnesota by next weekend if the weather allows.
You don’t have to go very far to find entertaining, competitive and intense match-ups on the high school sports scene. The spring prep sports landscape will take shape over the next few weeks as we’ll have playoffs underway, if not decided, in lacrosse, softball, baseball and tennis.
Authorities say an 8-year-old boy drove his foster family’s car with two younger children inside from St. Paul to Mounds View before pulling safely into a random driveway. Minnesota State Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Tiffani Nielson says none of the children or anyone else on the roads were injured.
