City leaders are reacting after the Fourth of July weekend got off to a deadly start in Minneapolis with a pair of deadly shootings that police say were not related. Authorities said two people died in separate shootings and another three were injured early Saturday morning.
An 18-year-old Willmar man has been sentenced for his involvement in the murder and robbery plot of his grandmother. On Wednesday morning, Robert Inocencio Warwick pleaded guilty to first-degree murder while committing a felony and was sentenced to life in prison. Another charge, first-degree premeditated murder, was dismissed.
A 29-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to murdering his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend last September. Andrew Joseph Dikken pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Police say they have arrested a man in St. Paul who’s wanted in the murder of a Grand Forks, North Dakota, man. St. Paul police spokesman Paul Paulos says the 29-year-old Delvin Shaw was arrested Saturday morning.
Three people are indicted of first-degree premeditated murder in the drug-related shooting death of a Minneapolis man in March. Maureen Onyelobi, David Johnson and Maurice Wilson were indicted Friday by a grand jury, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput is sharing his thoughts on the case against Byron Smith, the Little Falls man found guilty of murdering two teenagers who had broken into his home. “This was a preplanned, well thought out, way to murder a couple of kids whom he was angry at because he had a few things stolen out of his house and garage,” Orput said.
A grand jury has indicted two St. Paul men in a 15-year-old murder case. Authorities allege 32-year-old Earl Vang, of St. Paul, was one of two men who shot and killed 19-year-old Miguel McElroy outside a north Minneapolis convenience store July 9, 1999, after a drug deal went bad.
A man living in the area of Cold Spring, Minn. has been arrested in connection with a cold case murder that happened in Chicago in 2009. According to Chicago Police, 47-year-old Rene Valentine-Matos is suspected in the death of Jahmeshia Conner.
