Teen Gets 10 Years For Fatal Punch

After 17 months of waiting, a family finally learned how much time the man who killed their son will be in prison. A Stearns County judge sentenced 18-year-old Jesse Smithers to 10 years on Thursday. Smithers admitted to delivering the deadly punch in a St. Cloud alley almost a year and a half ago. On Sept. 21, 2012, Colton Gleason was walking with friends when a car pulled up, and Smithers got out and punched him. Colton died after falling and hitting his head.

Man, 19, Pleads Guilty In 13-Year-Old’s 2011 Shooting Death

A Minneapolis teenager pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the 2011 shooting of 13-year-old Rayjon Gomez. Donquarius Davon Copeland pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. Copeland’s sentencing has been scheduled for March 24.

Mankato Murder Suspect ‘Mentally Incompetent’ To Stand Trial

A veteran has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial for a murder and attempted murder in Mankato last June. According to the Blue Earth County Attorney’s office, 25-year-old Levi Spencer Minissale is accused of stabbing 20-year-old Yesenia Gonzalez to death, as well as stabbing a 26-year-old man on the night of June 6, 2013. A court-ordered psychiatrist determined Minissale to be “mentally ill or mentally deficient,” and should be civilly committed as a mentally ill and dangerous individual.

Judge Orders Schaffhausen To Pay Restitution To Ex-Wife

A judge has ordered the Wisconsin man who was convicted of killing his three daughters in Wisconsin to pay restitution to his ex-wife. Last year, Aaron Schaffhausen was handed three consecutive life sentences for the murders of 11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie and 5-year-old Cecilia at their River Falls home.

Man Arrested In Connection To N. Minn. Homicide

Authorities in northern Minnesota have a suspect in custody after a 55-year-old man was murdered on Monday. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office, the Babbitt Police Department responded to a medical emergency call just after 11 a.m. and found Paul John Bulen lying injured on a road. Bulen was brought to an Ely hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrested 24-year-old Shawn Russel Doherty, who is currently being held in the St. Louis County Jail

Man Arrested In MN Pleads Not Guilty In Wife’s ’97 Death

A former University of Iowa researcher has pleaded not guilty to killing his wife in 1997. John Richard Bloomfield entered the plea in writing Thursday. The filing waived his right to an in-person arraignment hearing, which had been scheduled for Friday.

One person was killed and another was hurt after a shooting in Andover, Minn. overnight. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the 2200 block of 138th Lane Northwest at about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Montevideo Man’s Death Ruled As Homicide

The death of a 64-year-old Montevideo man has officially been ruled a homicide by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner on Saturday. Thomas Dickson was found dead Monday evening in his apartment on the 100 block of west Canyon Avenue. His death was initially described by police as “suspicious.” Police say the public is not at risk. Anyone with information is asked to contact Montevideo Police at 320-269-8808.

Minn. Man Accused Of Killing 2 Faces New Charge

A man accused of killing two young women is now facing a sexual assault charge in Anoka County. Alberto Palmer had been charged with premeditated first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Brittany Clardy. Her body was found Feb. 19 in a car at an impound lot.

Police & Crime Stoppers Team Up To Solve Murder Of N. Mpls. Woman

Police are teaming up with Crime Stoppers to solve a homicide that happened in the summer of 2012. Lois Swenson was found murdered in her north Minneapolis home on June 13, 2012. Lt Richard Zimmerman believes Swenson had helped the suspect in the past. He said there is a man who knows the suspect, and they hope he comes forward.

Small Community Mourns Deaths Of Elderly Couple

A small community in Bayfield County is mourning the deaths of an elderly couple, killed in an attack at their home. Sheriff’s officials identify the couple as 79-year-old Jim Crain and 76-year-old Eunice Crain, of Iron River.
