No Wake Zones
If you’re planning on hitting the water this weekend, try not to make any waves. No-wake zones remain in effect on several area lakes because of the high water. On Prior Lake, a wall of sandbags is all that stands between the lake and several neighborhoods.
Heavy rainfall at the end of May, and beginning of June, is causing problems on lakes and rivers around Minnesota and Wisconsin. Some lakes have no wake zones, creeks and rivers are showing minor flooding and the swollen Mississippi River is sending a lot of debris down river. On the banks of the Mississippi, the St. Paul Yacht Club kicks off the boating season with an annual orientation.
One area where the water’s really been on the rise is in Stearns County in central Minnesota. We don’t think of sandbagging as a summertime chore, but that’s what a number of cabin owners are being forced to do.
