Two people are dead after two separate incidents occurred overnight in south Minneapolis. One was shot, the other stabbed. The shooting happened just before midnight Friday on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Avenue South.
Two good Samaritans traveling through central Minnesota over the weekend used a snorkel to great effect, but not underwater. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says the two used the piece of swimming equipment to help a man pinned inside of a car breathe until emergency crews could get him out.
Police officers subdued a 22-year-old man who began to cut his own throat after he was suspected of brutally assaulting his girlfriend Saturday. Fridley Police responded to reports of a domestic situation at 6373 Pierce St. NE, and encountered 22-year-old James Ahlers, who began to cut his throat before officers intervened.

Three separate shooting incidents in Minneapolis leave two dead and four others wounded early Saturday morning, according to Minneapolis Police. The first shooting happened just after midnight at a residence on the 3400 block of Dupont Avenue North. When police arrived, they found the victim had already died. Two other men were also wounded but are expected to survive. An adult male has been taken into custody for this shooting. The male was one of the two men taken to the hospital.
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted in Folwell Park in Minneapolis by a group of teenagers around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. According to Minneapolis Parks and Recreation, the teen, who is a Teen Teamworks employee, was surrounded by a group of approximately 15 teenage girls. The main aggressor then allegedly began hitting the victim with a lock.
A Minneapolis man who was shot to death Monday night has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Steven Montrell Martin, 37, was found with a gunshot wound to the neck by Minneapolis Police at about 10:45 p.m. in front of a home on the 3300 block of Penn Avenue North.
Bloomington Police arrested 16 people in a recent prostitution sting, including the former CEO of a Twin Cities hospital. David Cress, 64, was among the 15 men and one woman arrested on Tuesday. North Memorial Medical Center cut ties with Cress after police arrested him in a prostitution sting in Richfield four years ago.

A driver who fled on foot after hitting and killing a man who was walking on a Minneapolis sidewalk Friday night has been arrested. According to Minneapolis Police, the accident happened just after 10 p.m. near the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and Logan Avenue North. The victim was hit and dragged a short distance by a van that had driven up on a sidewalk.
A 17-year-old died Friday evening after he was pulled from an indoor pool at an apartment complex in Plymouth. Benedict Richardson was unresponsive when his father pulled him from the water at about 7 p.m., the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said.
The condition of one of the drivers involved in the crash that killed four people and left four injured in Sleepy Eye has improved. According to North Memorial Medical Center, Kansas Adams was listed in fair condition Saturday afternoon. The accident took place roughly at 8:18 p.m. Friday, March 7 according to Lt. Eric Roeske.
Authorities are investigating after a baby was found not breathing at a Plymouth apartment Wednesday morning, taken to a hospital and died. Plymouth Police responded to the 6100 block of Vicksburg Lane at about 6:40 a.m. on a report that an infant was not breathing.
A Champlin man is being treated for burns after his car ran off the road and then burst into flames Thursday morning. The accident happened in Maple Grove on Highway 169 just north of 494 shortly after 5 a.m. Officers had minutes to get 58-year-old Douglas Aure out of his car before it was fully engulfed in flames.
