The ovation wasn’t quite as deafening as it was 35 years ago. It was riveting, nonetheless, for Dave Christian and his old Olympic buddies, together again to celebrate their Miracle on Ice.
The “Miracle on Ice” was a triumph years in the making under the careful, demanding and creative guidance of coach Herb Brooks. Some of the documents that were part of the improbable U.S. victory over the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics are now for sale, along with a bunch of other belongings of the late hockey great.
“Red Army” revolves around Vyacheslav “Slava” Fetisov – the captain, leader, and soul of the hockey squad. While you’ll find the perfunctory highlights and archived evidence of Russia’s hockey acumen, the film is wonderfully spliced by sidebars between Fetisov and director Gabe Polsky.
Olympic slopestyle skier Nick Goepper won the bronze at the Sochi Olympics and Gold at the 2013 X Games. He did some skiing at Afton Alps Saturday before hosting a Q&A session with young skiers and riders.

As T.J. Oshie led the U.S. men’s Olympic team to a dramatic 3-2 shootout win over Russia on Saturday, people in his tiny northern Minnesota hometown were screaming in joy at their televisions, daring to hope that the 27-year-old would be the latest from Warroad to bring home Olympic gold.
T.J. Oshie scored four times in the shootout and got the winner in the eighth round, leading the United States past Russia 3-2 Saturday in the thrilling revival of a classic Olympic hockey rivalry. Cam Fowler and Joe Pavelski scored in regulation for the Americans in the marquee game of the preliminary round.
Ben Brushoff and Tony Carlson walked into Bolshoy Ice Dome for the men’s hockey game between the United States and Russia all decked out in stars and stripes. They didn’t have much company.
