In the past 2 1/2 weeks, three skyway businesses have closed and a fourth is scheduled to announce it will be closing Friday. Business owners said they had no choice but to close after losing business to the food trucks that line Marquette Avenue one story below.
Two Minneapolis staples will be closing their doors after a combined 164 years in business. Peter’s Grill, a favorite among Twin Cities lunchtime diners, first opened its doors in 1914, two years after the Titanic sunk. Halek’s Bar, founded over 65 years ago, will also be calling it quits.
Despite Minneapolis’s penchant for razing, there are numerous remnants from the city’s past that still stand. Some historic pieces are more hidden than others, but there is comfort — and fun to be had — in seeking the treasures that remain.
