We look at this game from a fantasy football perspective and consider the players from both sides that should be placed in the lineup or benched.
The NFL can’t be happy that its most controversial franchise is playing its primetime game to kick off Week 2. But that’s exactly what’s happening as the Baltimore Ravens host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night (8:25 ET, CBS).
Solomon Wilcots may have had one season in the black and yellow, but he’s an expert on all things football and he took the time to weigh in on this Thursday’s match-up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. Amid numerous controversial stories, there is still football to be played and games to be won. Week two starts with the Ravens and Steelers in an AFC North divisional match-up.

The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a rookie who made an immediate impact and started opening day was Kendrell Bell in 2001, but first-round draft pick Ryan Shazier has all the skills of an NFL starter and the backing of defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.
The Carolina Panthers cut the face of the franchise, Steve Smith, and let the only other three wide receivers on the roster that caught a pass last season leave as free agents. Tight end Greg Olsen is the only proven receiver returning from last season’s squad. Olsen should be Cam Newton’s favorite target this season.
So it is with my jaded view of the world that I address the Ben Roethlisberger – Emmanuel Sanders feud. Sanders said that his new quarterback, Peyton Manning, is a much better leader than his old quarterback, Big Ben. And thus the verbal jousting began, feathers flexed, talons out.

The Minnesota Vikings play the Detroit Lions Sunday in the last game ever in Mall of America Field. The Lions have a dynamic passing offense. They boast stout front-seven on their defense. Running back Reggie Bush and defensive tackle Nick Fairley are a pair of players to watch for the Lions.
But no matter how black or gold my allegiance, no matter how nostalgic I feel about them. and no matter how deep the Rooney roots run in NFL history, there’s no excuse for their head coach’s conduct on Thanksgiving.
NFL teams talk about the season being in four quarters. The league begins that final quarter this week. The Minnesota Vikings travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the Baltimore Ravens Sunday in their Week 13 game. The Ravens are led on offense by quarterback Joe Flacco, but wide receiver Torrey Smith is the player to watch. The defense is led by veteran nose tackle Haloti Ngata.
The endless genius of the NFL can’t be completely quantified. But part of pro football’s popularity is burning its image in our culture and our consciousness. While baseball and basketball have their July 4 and Christmas brands, they are afterthoughts, or leftovers, compared to the NFL’s hallmark roll call.
The Minnesota Vikings face another division-rival coming off a disappoint defeat. This Sunday, the Vikings face the Chicago Bears at Mall of America Field. The Bears are 6-5 on the season and have been more successful through the air – both on offense and defense. The Bears have big physical receivers. They have been banged up in the front seven on defense and struggled to stop the opposition on the ground.
There’s a baleful buzz around Big Ben and my beloved black & gold these days. Reports say that the mountainous QB is now a mutinous QB, demanding he be traded at the end of this season.

The Panthers are led by quarterback Cam Newton on offense and middle linebacker Luke Kuechly on defense.
The Minnesota Vikings have only one win through the first quarter of the season, but Cordarrelle Patterson, Xavier Rhodes and Marcus Sherels have played well. The Vikings need Chad Greenway, Erin Henderson, the offensive line and Christian Ponder to step up to get the team back on the right track.
Harrison Smith is likely going to get the fine of his young career following an unnecessary roughness penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit in the Minnesota Vikings victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. While the safety is prepared for the fine, he is not sure it is right. Blair Walsh set the Vikings career record for 50-plus-yard field goals. The Vikings were forced to start two new starters in the secondary after Chris Cook and Jamarca Sanford were ruled out.
Since 2005, the NFL has hosted an International Series by having a regular season game played outside of the United States. The first game in London was played in 2007 when the New York Giants defeated the Miami Dolphins 13-10.
Now, one major thread in that curtain is gone. L.C. Greenwood, he of the height and heft and six Pro Bowls and four rings, as central to the dynasty as anyone not named Joe Greene or Jack Lambert, died of natural causes.
Christian Ponder’s broken ribs forced the Minnesota Vikings to start backup quarterback Matt Cassel. The nine-year veteran led the team to a 34-27 victory. The Vikings finally have something to build on this season with the consistent and trustworthy quarterback. The defense made a big play when it needed to and the special teams made plays – some good and some bad.
The Minnesota Vikings got on the jet back to the United States with newfound reasons to believe they can salvage this season. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, an unsuccessful London trip means it already could be time to start looking toward next year.
