Teenager Nathan MacKinnon is growing up fast. Almost as fast as he skates. The speedy 18-year-old delivered another stellar performance for the Colorado Avalanche, scoring his first NHL postseason goal and dishing out three assists in a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.
Patrick Roy showed as much boldness behind the bench as he once did as a Hall of Fame goaltender. The first-year Colorado coach made some daring moves late in the game — like pulling his goaltender with 3:01 remaining — and yet the ploy worked out.

The Minnesota Wild went into Tuesday night knowing they would only need one more point to clinch a playoff berth in the Western Conference. The task would not come easy as the Boston Bruins, the defending Eastern Conference champions, were in town. Fortunately for the Wild, their play-off berth was solidified before the start of the third period. The Phoenix Coyotes lost their game in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3.

After losing 111-104 to the Toronto Raptors Sunday night, the Timberwolves have now lost two games of the four games they will play at home. The loss dropped their record, once again, to .500 at 31-31. So at this point, with 20 games to go, how many more wins will the Timberwolves need to make the playoffs?
In Minnesota, there’s nothing like the atmosphere, excitement and pressure of high school playoff hockey. That is, unless, you’re Orono’s David McCuskey. In his high school hockey postseason career, McCuskey is averaging three goals a game. He’s only played one, but it was a good one. “I just really like to win. I guess I’m pretty competitive out there,” McCuskey said.
The Minnesota Timberwolves would probably have to go 20 and 10, or maybe even 22 and 8 for the rest of the way to make the playoffs. The task is again becoming daunting, and forward Corey Brewer is painfully aware. “We need a win before All-Star break. We got a lot of injuries, man,” Brewer said. “It’s tough when you have injuries.” They are indeed a team riddled with current injuries, and frustrated by another sub-par season. Healthy or not, the Wolves cannot get stops on defense.
