The start of the fishing season is just hours away, and fishermen and women are gearing up to head out at midnight.
Miss Kansas, the tattooed Army sergeant, and the injured Miss Florida, wearing a bejeweled knee brace, were among contestants advancing to the semi-finals of Sunday’s Miss America finale in Atlantic City as the pageant returned home to where it all began in 1921.
The final round of preliminary competition in the 2014 Miss America pageant will be held Thursday night in Atlantic City. Contestants from Mississippi, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Oklahoma have won preliminary contests over the first two nights of competition.
As the pageant honored the victims of the 9/11 attacks a dozen years earlier, Miss America contestants from Oklahoma and Minnesota won the second night of preliminary competitions in the pageant on Wednesday. Miss Oklahoma Kelsey Griswold won a $1,000 scholarship for the swimsuit competition.
