The Minnesota Timberwolves would probably have to go 20 and 10, or maybe even 22 and 8 for the rest of the way to make the playoffs. The task is again becoming daunting, and forward Corey Brewer is painfully aware. “We need a win before All-Star break. We got a lot of injuries, man,” Brewer said. “It’s tough when you have injuries.” They are indeed a team riddled with current injuries, and frustrated by another sub-par season. Healthy or not, the Wolves cannot get stops on defense.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half and Wesley Matthews added 21 to help the Portland Trail Blazers hold off the injury-depleted Minnesota Timberwolves 117-110 Saturday night. Aldridge had six points during Portland’s game-deciding 13-1 run in the fourth quarter. Corey Brewer led Minnesota with 26 points and Ricky Rubio scored a career-high 25 for the Wolves, who were without All-Star Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic and Kevin Martin.
Nikola Pekovic was no longer wearing a walking boot on his injured ankle at Monday’s practice, but Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman still says he has “no clue” when his big man might return. One thing is clear: they need him back as soon as possible. Kevin Love was almost unstoppable Saturday night with 43 points and 19 rebounds, but that wasn’t enough to pull off a win.

Kevin Love had 19 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists to help the Minnesota Timberwolves run past Utah 112-97 on Tuesday night and sweep a home-and-home set with the Jazz.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are struggling, and Ricky Rubio puts a lot of the responsibility on his shoulders. Rubio is shooting just 34.6 percent this season and scoring 8.6 points per game. Those numbers are the lowest of his short career. He had five turnovers and was benched for the fourth quarter of a home loss to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. The magic that made him one of the most exciting players in the NBA when he arrived from Spain has been absent this season while the Timberwolves have started a disappointing 18-20.

The situation looked bleak at best for the coach Doc Rivers’ Clippers — down by four points with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Then a couple of defensive stops, a huge turnover by Minnesota’s Kevin Martin, and two clutch baskets by Jamal Crawford forced overtime.

Kevin Martin had 27 points with some key baskets down the stretch, Kevin Love had his usual double-double and the Minnesota Timberwolves snapped a three-game losing streak with a 112-106 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night. Martin made two free throws with just under 6 minutes left to put Minnesota up 94-90. Ricky Rubio then had a steal that led to a long fast-break jumper by Martin, who later beat the shot clock with a jumper and then added a 3-pointer. That stretched the lead to 103-92, matching its largest, with 3:12 left. Love, who finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, also had a buzzer-beating shot. His 3-pointer with just under 2 minutes left made it 106-95.
Ty Lawson scored 23 points, reserve Nate Robinson added 15 and the Denver Nuggets held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 117-110 on Wednesday night.
Kevin Garnett has never lost to his former team. He’s 7-0 against the Timberwolves with four of those wins at Target Center, averaging 14.9 points and 10.3 rebounds in those games. “I played in this building before, for countless years,” Garnett said, before breaking into a smile and a chuckle. “I hope that I at least make a couple shots in this place.” Indeed, more than just a couple. A Garnett return is a good chance to break out the old highlight tape, and remember.
