Abeler Says He’ll Take Weekend To Decide On Senate

State Rep. Jim Abeler says he’ll take the weekend to decide whether to press forward in the Minnesota Senate race or bow out. Abeler left a primary campaign on the table. But he says Mike McFadden’s endorsement win “raises the bar” and would complicate a bid. Filing for the office closes Tuesday.

St. Paul Schools To Hand Out iPads To Students

The St. Paul school district plans to hand out iPads to all students in the next school year. That year, the district sought and won voter approval of a $9 million-per-year technology initiative that was to create a “teaching and learning platform,” or Facebook-like webpage, through which teachers and students could interact, according to the Star Tribune. Its proponents insisted that the initiative was not about supplying devices to students.

Primary Ahead, GOP’s Honour Names Running Mate

Minnesota Republican Scott Honour has filled out his ticket for governor with a state senator as the first-time candidate looks ahead to an August primary. Honour, a former investment company executive, named state Sen. Karin Housley of St. Mary’s Point for the lieutenant governor slot. Honour says she brings legislative experience to his campaign but not so much she is considered engrained in government.

Republicans Vie At Convention To Be Franken’s Foe

After elaborate videos, sharp-toned speeches and even indoor fireworks, Minnesota Republicans are voting to back a candidate for U.S. Senate. Half a dozen candidates vied Friday for the GOP endorsement at the state convention, with the winner likely having to overcome an August primary challenge to face Democratic Sen. Al Franken in November.

Gilbert Gains GOP Nod To Take On Otto For Auditor

Former Long Lake Mayor Randy Gilbert has won Republican backing in his second bid for the state auditor’s post. Gilbert has an accounting background and was the only candidate for the Republican endorsement awarded Friday at the Minnesota GOP convention in Rochester.

Authorities Looking For Wanted Fugitive Near Rochester

Authorities in southeastern Minnesota are asking for the public’s help as a fugitive who is wanted for fleeing police is at-large. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Gregory Victor Ahlers of Lake City, at a residence on the 800 block of Paxton Road Southwest in Rochester Township.

It was a special night for the Mayo Clinic and the people they’ve helped. Last night the hospital in Rochester, Minn. celebrated its 150th birthday. Local celebrities attended the bash including Governor Dayton and Minnesota Viking Chad Greenway.

Owner Mourns Loss Of Great Dane Mauled By Wild Animal

A southern Minnesota family lost one of their 200 pound Great Danes Saturday when a wild animal attacked their animals. Officers say it may have been a mountain lion, but there’s no doubt it was something wild. Alex Endrizzi has been an owner of Great Danes for 47 years.

Woman, 82, Dies On Delta Flight Headed To Minneapolis

Authorities said a plane headed from San Antonio to Minneapolis on Sunday had to be diverted after a passenger aboard died suddenly. According to Rochester Police, Delta Flight 3812 was on its way to Minneapolis when it was diverted to Rochester just after 10 p.m. Sunday after an 82-year-old woman died on the plane.

Toddler Pinned Under Tractor In Olmsted County

A toddler is recovering after being pinned under a tractor near Rochester Friday morning, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s office. The 2-and-a-half-year-old boy was sitting on his grandfather’s lap on a Kubota tractor while he was grading his driveway on the 300 block of 60th Avenue Southwest just before 10:45 a.m.

Driver Says Misstep Led To Car Dangling From Mayo Parking Garage

A driver and a passenger were shaken up Friday after their car was left dangling from a parking garage. The driver told firefighters she may have hit the accelerator while parking her car on the seventh floor of the Mayo Clinic’s parking garage in Rochester.
