A winter sport unique to Minnesota has turned into an annual festival. The sport, a cross between snowboarding and wake surfing, was dreamed up by two brothers in their parent’s Mendota Heights front yard. Now, it has grown to become known as “WinchFest.”
Warm temperatures and last night’s rain didn’t make ideal conditions for the World Cup ice boating competition on Lake Pepin Wednesday. But racers from eight different countries say they’re happy to find any good piece of ice this winter.
