Eagan at Prior Lake highlights a big night of high school football across Minnesota Friday as state tournament bids are up for grabs. Every athlete that ever puts on football pads dreams of the chance to play for a trip to state. For 112 teams across seven total classes, the opportunity is there this week to celebrate a section championship when the clock hits zero.
Unless you’re one of the few teams to end a season with a state championship, there’s nothing like the feeling of winning a section title and earning that coveted trip to state.
It’s a big week for many high school girls basketball programs across the state. The playoffs are always a fun time to watch since that’s usually when the best teams emerge. When a season is on the line and a state tournament bid is at stake, it gets even better.
The field for one of the most highly anticipated state tournaments will be set before the weekend is over, and four great match-ups Friday night will solidify the field.
When football teams gathered for the first football practices of the season back in August, everyone had dreams of getting to the state playoffs and playing for a championship in the Metrodome. Friday night, 42 teams will realize that goal of winning a section title and moving on to the state tournament.
When championships are on the line, that’s when leaders step up and carry their teams forward. That was never more evident than Friday night as some of the state’s top players emerged to lead their teams to victories in section championship games around the state.
It’s section championship Friday. It’s one of the best days in the year for high school football. It comes second probably only to Prep Bowl Friday, which is the day after we stuff ourselves full of turkey on Thanksgiving.
