Two former leaders in Minnesota’s Independence Party have endorsed Republican candidate Mike McFadden in his bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Al Franken. Former Independence Party Chairman Jack Uldrich and former House candidate David Dillon both threw their support behind McFadden on Monday.
Senator Al Franken is making the rounds at the Minnesota State Fair. On Sunday, he sat down with WCCO’s Roshini Rajkumar, the host of News and Views, and talked about the campaign.
U.S. Sen. Al Franken says he regrets a video in which he’s shown holding two traffic cones to his chest like breasts.
The video was recorded at a 2012 fundraiser and first surfaced this spring Republican officials brought it up again this week a few days after GOP congressional candidate Jim Hagedorn came under attack for old blog writings targeting women, American Indians, gays and others.

Finally, on Sunday many people had a much-needed, sunny day to dry out. But the extensive damage from flooding in several parts of the state will take a long time to fix. The process is underway to tally up the damage and see if the state qualifies for federal aid.
The crowd at President Barack Obama’s economic policy speech isn’t made up entirely of his supporters. Some say they showed up Friday because they couldn’t pass up a chance to see a sitting president in person even if they don’t share his views.

U.S. Sen Al Franken has won the endorsement of Minnesota Democrats for a second term. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party convention delegates in Duluth backed him by acclamation and welcomed him to the stage at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
After elaborate videos, sharp-toned speeches and even indoor fireworks, Minnesota Republicans are voting to back a candidate for U.S. Senate. Half a dozen candidates vied Friday for the GOP endorsement at the state convention, with the winner likely having to overcome an August primary challenge to face Democratic Sen. Al Franken in November.
