Authorities are investigating the shooting deaths of a man and a woman at an Eden Prairie apartment last weekend as a murder-suicide.
After a former student threatened on Thursday to bring a gun to McKinley School and hurt people, classes were canceled on Friday, but criminal charges are unlikely, authorities said. Waite Park Police Department said classes at other district schools had a normal schedule.
Two men were charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a Fridley man as he sat in his car in a New Hope parking lot back in June. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Friday that 29-year-old Damin Lee Shufford, of New Hope, and 20-year-old Adaiah Deontraie Townsend, of Crystal, were charged in the June 26 shooting death of 59-year-old Kent Lee Walker, Jr.

Authorities say a father and son in Brooklyn Center are dead after a fight escalated in what appears to be a murder-suicide. Police responded to the 1300 block of 72nd Avenue North at about 1 a.m. Monday after a report that the two had gotten into a fight.
One person is dead after a shooting outside a bar in Burnsville, Minn. It happened outside the parking lot of Nina’s Grill around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
A man is in the hospital Saturday after an overnight shooting in Minneapolis. Police said the incident took place around 10:30 p.m. Friday on the 4600 block of Lyndale Avenue North. The victim was shot in the chest and was taken to North Memorial. His condition is not yet known.
Minneapolis Police and Crime Stoppers are teaming up to catch the man responsible for shooting a 14-month-old girl and two teens, one of whom was pregnant. According to police, the shootings happened on the early evening of August 20 on the 2900 block of Lyndale Avenue North in Minneapolis. MyKhalea Smith, 14 months old, Trenay Smith, 19 and Javar Smith, 17, were all on the porch of a residence when an unidentified man walked up and began shooting at them. MyKhalea was shot near her shoulder, while Trenay and Javar were both shot in the leg. Trenay was pregnant at the time.
The man who was killed in a late August shooting in Brooklyn Park has been identified.
Police have arrested the suspect in the Granite Falls double homicide. Andrew Joseph Dikken was taken into custody at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Renville County Sheriff’s Office in Olivia, Minn., according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Dikken was being sought in the Sept. 2 shooting deaths of Kara Ann Monson, 26, of Granite Falls, and Christopher Allen Panitzke, 28, of Redwood Falls.
Violence erupted in downtown Minneapolis early Monday morning, sending four people to area hospitals. Two people were shot, and two others were stabbed in incidents that do not appear to be related. According to police, the overnight violence came right after bar closing, when more than a thousand young people were in the street after an 18-and-up event let out.
A 41-year-old West St. Paul man has been sentenced for shooting at two police officers after a fight at his home with his brother Sunday morning, according to the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.
A Hennepin County Grand Jury is hearing testimony in a police shooting case. Twenty-two-year-old Terrance Franklin died last May after being shot several times in the basement of a home in Uptown.
Police said Tuesday an arrest has been made in the shooting last Thursday of a 2-month-old boy in north Minneapolis. Authorities said a 17-year-old boy, an uncle of the victim, turned himself into police at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
