This year hasn’t been the greatest for winter sports. Without much snow, it’s been tough for snowmobilers, let along skiers and snowboarders. But, there’s one action sport that’s doing well in this mild winter.
If there’s anything the kiddos love more than their favorite Disney stars, it’s when those same Disney stars strap on a pair of skates and hit the ice. This year, when Disney On Ice comes to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul this December, they’ll have plenty of familiar faces, beyond the stars, in tow.
The Vikings aren’t the only ones affected by the closing of the Metrodome. The Rollerblade Rollerdome has welcomed more than 850,000 in-line skaters since 1990. Saturday was its 24th and final season opener. In the video above, WCCO photojournalist David Porter shows us the fans who are savoring some of their final spins around the stadium.
