The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of a December 2013 farmhouse fire in western Minnesota that left two children dead is undetermined. The fire happened on Dec. 4, 2013, at a home in the town of Lucan, which is just west of Redwood Falls.
Authorities said Wednesday that kitchen fires killed more people last year than in the previous seven years combined, according to statistics by the State Fire Marshal.
The number of people killed in Minnesota fires was down 14 percent in 2013. According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, there were 43 fire fatalities in 2013 compared to 50 in 2012. In a news release, State Fire Marshal Bruce West says they are encouraged the numbers are down but the only acceptable number for fire deaths is zero.
Authorities are looking for help in finding the person or people responsible for setting fire to a veterinary hospital in North Branch on Sunday.
