Authorities said two homeowners got out safely but their house is a total loss after a fire early Tuesday morning in Stearns County. The Avon Fire Department was called to a residence on the 33000 block of 185th Avenue in Avon Township at about 2:53 a.m. on a report of a fire.
Authorities said icy conditions from the first snowfall were likely a factor in a Wednesday morning rollover crash that sent 10 people to the hospital. St. Cloud Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at about 4:06 a.m. Wednesday on the County Road 75 overpass near the Sauk River.
The brother of a 24-year-old Minnesota woman who went missing last spring says his family felt some relief when they heard that human remains were discovered Saturday.
Human remains were found in a Stearns County park on Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, the remains were found in a shallow grave by a hiker shortly after 1 p.m. at Mississippi County Park. The identity and gender of the remains are unclear. The Stearns County Sheriff’s office is working with Eden Prairie Police and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to determine if the remains are those of 24-year-old Mandy Matula, who went missing back in May.
Maple Grove Police have arrested a man suspected of a month-long armed-robbery spree that mostly targeted fast-food restaurants along the Interstate 94 corridor. According to authorities, Douglas Wayne Gravelle was taken into custody on Thursday. This arrest comes after a string of armed robberies which began in early September. Fast-food restaurants in Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud, Big Lake, Clearwater and Monticello were targeted. A Game Stop video game store in Monticello may also have been robbed by Gravelle earlier this month.
At least one person was hurt Tuesday when a car hit a tractor and then was side-swiped by oncoming traffic in Sauk Centre, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities responded to a crash involving multiple vehicles at about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of County Road 17 and 385th Avenue in Sauk Centre.
A 19-year-old man crashed and rolled his Jeep Thursday after a bee distracted him as he was driving in Stearns County, according to authorities. According to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Dylan Mendel was driving on County Road 133, just northeast of 322nd Street in Wendel Township at 11:27 a.m., when a bee pestered him so much that he drove into the ditch. He lost control of the vehicle as it rolled over.
The man accused of murdering a Cold Spring officer in 2012 has been cleared of any charges. Authorities say evidence shows a second suspect, who committed suicide before being questioned, would have been arrested in the officer’s death.
A 24-year-old man from Upsala was arrested early Saturday morning after four people were hurt in a crash in Stearns County, authorities said. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury crash at about 1:24 a.m. Saturday near County Road 37 and Mary’s Lake Road in Millwood Township.
Authorities said as many as five people were hurt Tuesday night in a rollover crash in Sauk Centre Township. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at about 9:12 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 185 and 421st Street.
Authorities said a 15-year-old boy from Brooten was critically hurt Monday after crashing and rolling his ATV in Stearns County. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at about 6:28 p.m. Monday on the 45000 block of Isabella Road in North Fork Township.
Authorities said four people were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after an apparent armed robbery of a cab driver in St. Cloud.
A 39-year-old Paynesville man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly assaulted and stabbed his girlfriend, according to police.
A 52-year-old farmer in the central Minnesota town of Watkins lost five calves in a barn fire Friday morning, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
