Target’s massive workforce reduction is the latest milestone in a company that has long and colorful history in Minnesota. The Dayton Company, which had popular department stores throughout the Twin Cities, decided to launch something new in 1961 — a discount chain.
Target unveiled its latest store concept in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown neighborhood Wednesday, and it’s the smallest one yet. TargetExpress, at the corner of SE 5th Street and SE 14th Avenue, is one-sixth the size of a traditional Target, about one-ninth the size of a SuperTarget. It’s focused on essentials that people nearby would want.
A crowded Twin Cities Target store was held up Thursday night and the robber is still missing. As customers waited to pick up their prescriptions at the SuperTarget at 1750 South Robert Street in West St. Paul, a gunman came to the front of the line and demanded drugs.
