Minnesota Vikings right guard Brandon Fusco will need about four months to recover from his upcoming surgery for his torn pectoral muscle. Fusco says he’ll have the operation Monday with a specialist in New York. He was hurt while blocking last week in the game at New Orleans.

Minneapolis Police’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested a 27-year-old man Wednesday, who has an outstanding warrant for premeditated first-degree murder. Quanan Lee Machacek is accused of stabbing Cody Lee Rasche to death on the night of Sept. 10.

A Republican running for Minnesota governor needed surgery after suffering abdominal pain Monday morning. Jeff Johnson’s campaign said Johnson went to urgent care and after an initial consultation with doctors, it was decided that he needed surgery and he was then moved to the Maple Grove Hospital.

Isaac Kolstad Still Critical After Surgeries

The former Mankato football player who was allegedly assaulted by two men last weekend successfully underwent another surgery Friday morning, according to his CaringBridge page. Issac Kolstad, who used to play football for Minnesota State University, Mankato, is still in critical condition. He will not undergo any other procedures or surgeries for the next couple days, according to his brother Blaine Kolstad.

Backstrom, Zucker Have Surgeries For Wild

Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom and forward Jason Zucker had surgery this week to address injuries that ended their seasons. The Wild announced Wednesday that Backstrom had surgery in Philadelphia on Tuesday on a core muscle injury. The injury bothered Backstrom for much of the season. He went 5-11-2 with a 3.02 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. He has not played since Jan. 30. The team says it expects him to be fully recovered in time for next season.

Koivu Likely Out For Wild This Week; Olympics?

Mikko Koivu’s return to the Minnesota Wild likely won’t come until after the Olympics, leaving his availability for Finland during the Winter Games in question. Koivu broke his right ankle Jan. 4 when he was hit by a puck and had surgery to accelerate the recovery. The captain and first-line center has resumed skating, but Wild coach Mike Yeo told reporters after practice Monday that Koivu’s availability for the last two games before the Olympics break was “highly in doubt.”
