The similarities between shifty St. Thomas wideouts – and close friends – senior Dan Noehring and junior Dan Ferrazzo are numerous. The Dan duo were both: -Captains of their high school football teams (Noehring hails from Lakeville South, and Ferrazzo’s a Mahtomedi product).
The St. John’s University Johnnies beat the St. Thomas Tommies in a shocking 20-18 win, part of a legendary college football rivalry which brought fans out in droves Saturday to St. Paul. With new head coach Gary Fashing, the Johnnies looked like they were going to meet the same fate as they had in the last three years when the Tommies took an early 8-0 lead. But they bounced back by taking advantage of turnovers, which Sam Sura did this often at South St. Paul High School.
Why’s Harry Pitera always got a grin on his face? Probably because the two-time All-MIAC outside linebacker has his No. 2-ranked Tommies off to a 2-0 start. Maybe it’s knowing that 10,000-plus fans will be on hand to watch his senior class aim to cap their careers having never lost to arch-rival St. John’s, former MIAC immortal and national powerhouse.
Everybody loves Tremayne Williams. Both on and off the record, his trainers, his teammates and his coach respect and revere the face of the 2013 Tommie football team. “He’s our poster boy,” coach Glenn Caruso said during two-a-days last week at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
I’m confident the following is true. Steve Maher’s summer > your summer. Before you angrily start over-sharing your Instagram lake pics en masse, here’s why. The All-American pitcher from Division-III St. Thomas is playing America’s pastime – every – single – day in the Northwoods League with the Waterloo Bucks (seriously, like some 75 games in 70 days).
Soccer is gaining popularity throughout Minnesota and the country. Now some local guys are kicking a soccer ball across the state to promote the sport. Two weeks ago, Alex Daley and Matt Scott started dribbling a soccer ball from the Canadian border in International Falls and began to travel south.
One day of rest a month. Just one. That rigid regimen’s one of the reasons the human gazelle Taylor Berg could bring home an NCAA crown this weekend.
What Dylan Thomas has – a right arm that throws 93 mph with more than enough control to be named the 2012 MIAC’s Pitcher of the Year.
Pretty sure Erik Tengwall had a better weekend than you did. The St. Thomas junior’s No. 1-ranked basketball team eked out a 63-62 win at home and advanced to an NCAA D-III Elite Eight match […]
If St. Thomas basketball’s assistant coach Mike Keating were to snag a nasty little paper cut while dishing out scouting reports, I’m certain his blood would not be a maroon hue.
The best friend dynamic between St. Thomas’ John Nance and Tommy Hannon is so genuine, so goofy, and so … simply entertaining that I found myself momentarily forgetting to interview two of the cornerstones for […]
St. Thomas senior Will DeBerg has a specific memory he recounts with detail and ecstatic ease — one he wants to repeat.
You probably would have cried, too. From as early on as elementary school, Taylor Young’s grandfather dished out basketball critiques of his granddaughter without pulling any punches.
Turns out, Kia Johnson has her older brother — and that B+ she got back in elementary school — to thank for the deluge of success she’s enjoyed lately.
The University of St. Thomas has extended its broadcast agreement with WCCO NewsRadio 830 through the 2012-2013 season. WCCO-AM’s Dave Lee will continue to provide play-by-play for the Tommies, along with WCCO-AM’s Eric Nelson doing color commentary.
