Some tornadoes have touched down in west-central Minnesota. The National Weather Service says a storm chaser reported a brief tornado touchdown near Hawick in Kandiyohi County about 6 p.m. Thursday. Another tornado touched down earlier near Norway Lake, also in Kandiyohi County. The sheriff’s office reports no damage.
The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office says residents reported a tornado touchdown near St. James early Friday night. The touchdown was in Long Lake Township, where the sheriff’s office says a building owned by Civil Ag Group sustained extensive damage.
The tornado that tore through the town of Wadena in 2010 left 4,000 community members working tirelessly to clean up the extensive damage. From the air, it looked like a war zone. Homes were flattened; a church was destroyed; school buses were covered in debris from all that was left of Wadena Deer Creek High School.
Residents in north Minneapolis are still struggling to get back on their feet after the May 22 tornado that ripped through the area. A single father of four got some much needed help from strangers across the country on Friday.
