University of Minnesota men’s hockey senior Travis Boyd was honored by the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday after the Gophers swept Bemidji State in their first home series of the season. Boyd was named the league’s First Star of the Week after collecting four points over the two games in the series.

Adam Wilcox made 38 saves in net as the No. 1-ranked Gophers hockey team beat No. 5-ranked St. Cloud State 4-1 Friday night in the North Star College Cup at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota improved to 18-2-3 with the win and advanced to Saturday night’s championship game of the all-Minnesota tournament.

Minnesota, hosting the Mariucci Classic last weekend, earned a split after losing to Colgate in a shootout Friday night and beating RPI 6-2 Saturday night.
