Lawmakers Winnow List For University Governing Board

Lawmakers narrowed down Tuesday the field of candidates for the University of Minnesota’s governing board but couldn’t agree in two of the five contests. Members of the House and Senate higher education committees planned to recommend five candidates for the 12-member Board of Regents — which sets tuition and policy at the state’s flagship college — to the joint Legislature, which will likely make final choices later this month. They did that for three out five open seats, choosing two newcomers and an incumbent.

Racial Activist Group Hosts Sit-In At U Of M

The student led group Whose Diversity? is hosting a sit-in on the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus Monday. According to a statement released by the group, Whose Diversity? is holding the sit-in in President Kaler’s office in an effort to persuade change on campus.

Two University of Minnesota students were allegedly robbed and assault near campus early Friday morning, according to police. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. Friday near the intersection of 6th Street SE and 12th Avenue SE.

Study: U Of M Ranked In Top 30 For Best Global Universities

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus was ranked as the 29th best global university, according to a study done by U.S. News & World Report. The study, released Tuesday, ranks the U of M at number nine among U.S. public institutions and number three among Big Ten Conference public schools.

Every so often, I visit the U of M Dairy Salesroom and pick up a few cheeses. Last time, I purchased a tub of Nuworld cheese spread. Nuworld is a cheese developed at the U of M and is considered a white “blue” cheese instead of the more traditional blue veined blue cheese.

‘U’ Motorcycle Officer Injured In Minneapolis Chase

A University of Minnesota motorcycle officer was injured in a high-speed chase Saturday morning in Minneapolis. According to Minneapolis Police, the incident happened just after 11 a.m. in Seven Corners near the U of M’s West Bank campus. The officer ran the plate of a black SUV with a trailer attached to it and found that it was stolen.

Police: U Of M Student Molested While Walking Home

Police are investigating after a female University of Minnesota student was allegedly molested Friday evening while walking to her home near campus. According to police, around 9:20 p.m. the victim was walking to her home near Fulton Street SE and Ontario Street SE. Upon reaching her building, the victim said a man, who she believed was following her, reached out and grabbed her butt over her clothes.
