National Cyber Security Alliance Visits MN To Educate Online Consumers

In this day and age, hackers are finding more ways to compromise online security and steal information. To prevent the future issues, the National Cyber Security Alliance is on a 10-city tour to educate consumers on ways to protect themselves. Tuesday, the group visited Minnesota.

Light Rail’s Green Line Opens With Celebration, Some Protest

The Green Line light rail that runs between St. Paul and Minneapolis is opening for business. Service on the Green Line will officially start at 10 a.m. Saturday after a ribbon cutting ceremony at Union Depot on St. Paul.

Amtrak Starts St. Paul Service For First Time Since 1971

Passenger trains are rolling through historic Union Depot in St. Paul again. Amtrak service picked up passengers Wednesday night and will again on Thursday for the first time since 1971. The train was supposed to arrive in St. Paul at about 8 a.m., but was delayed several hours.

When White House officials chose St. Paul’s Union Depot for President Barack Obama’s announcement of a $600 million competition for federal grants to fund infrastructure projects that create jobs, they picked a site that received nearly $125 million in federal funds for a major renovation.

Tickets Released For President Obama’s St. Paul Visit

President Barack Obama will be visiting St. Paul’s recently-renovated Union Depot on Wednesday, and people had a chance Monday to get tickets. The president is expected to announce a new competition to create jobs and restore infrastructure. Jill Martin from Roseville came to the Union Depot on Monday to get tickets, and says it’s a perfect location for the president’s visit.

Minn. Wild Players Moonlight As Waiters For Good Cause

Minnesota Wild players are taking off their helmets and taking orders. On Monday evening, they became celebrity waiters at the “Wild About Children” fundraiser. St. Paul’s Union Depot was transformed in to a fancy restaurant for the event, which benefits Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Skater-turned-waiter Mikko Koivu says his serving skills trump those of his teammates.

98-Year-Old Woman Recounts Experience As ‘Orphan Train’ Rider

It seems unimaginable now, but adoption for some families used to be as easy as showing up at the train depot. Word would go out when kids were coming from the East Coast. They were largely children of immigrant families who’d found poverty rather than promise in their voyage to the New World. Renee Wendinger of Sleepy Eye interviewed some Orphan Train riders for her book. Few of them are still living. “They were found in doorways and other out-of-the-way places, hungry and starving,” Wendinger said.
