Sheriff: $2 Million In Marijuana Seized In Wis. Drug Bust

Authorities said about $2 million worth of marijuana was seized in a large drug bust in Wisconsin late last week. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office executed several search warrants last Thursday homes in Wausau and the Township of Holton as part of a large drug trafficking investigation.

Marathon County sheriff’s officials say human remains have been found in a home near Wausau that was destroyed by an explosion. Sheriff’s Lt. Ryan Weber said Friday investigators determined homemade bombs at the home were intentionally set.

Wis. Court Upholds 1999 Homicide Conviction

A state appeals court says a man accused of brutally beating a woman and leaving her body near an abandoned building in Wausau was properly convicted. Prosecutors in 2007 charged James Emerson with first-degree intentional homicide in the 1999 slaying of Rhonda Mertes. A jury found him guilty in 2009 and a judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole.
