Police: 2 Robbed At Gunpoint Near ‘U’

Two people were robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot near the University of Minnesota’s West Bank campus early Tuesday morning. Minneapolis Police say the crime occurred at about 2:20 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hard Times Café at 1821 Riverside Ave.

Mudslide Causes Evacuation, Road Closures In Mpls.

A mudslide in Minneapolis caused evacuations and road closures Thursday evening. Deputy Chief Todd White from the Minneapolis Fire Department says the mudslide was first reported at about 7:15 p.m., and occurred on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota campus.

A local theater is seeking the public’s help in finding a man who broke into their offices and stole computers and equipment. On May 31, a man broke into the Southern Theater at 1420 Washington Avenue in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.

‘U’ Issues Crime Alert After Violent Robbery

The University of Minnesota has issued a crime alert after someone was assaulted and robbed by three men near the West Bank campus Thursday night. According to University officials, someone not affiliated with the U of M was walking near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and 20th Avenue South at about 8:30 p.m. when three men approached the victim from behind.

Cedar To Hold Benefit For Mpls. Fire Victims

The Cedar Cultural Center will hold a benefit concert to raise money for victims of a fatal apartment building fire near downtown Minneapolis. The concert takes place Jan. 24 at The Cedar, located on the Minneapolis West Bank. The Cedar is just down the street from where the New Year’s Day fire and explosion killed three people. The fire also destroyed a grocery store on the ground level and displaced tenants in 10 apartments.

‘U’ Issues Crime Alert After Attempted Robbery

Officials at the University of Minnesota issued a crime alert Monday after a student was robbed at gun point on Sunday. According to University Police, the student says a man pulled out a gun and demanded their laptop computer at the Carlson School of Management, which is on the West Bank Campus. The student yelled for help and started chasing the robber, who ended up dropping the laptop during the chase.

U Of Minn. To Host Tributes To Mandela

The University of Minnesota will host tributes to Nelson Mandela this week. The Humphrey Students of Color Association at the Humphrey School will rebroadcast Mandela’s memorial service, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday. The event will be held at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs on the university’s West Bank. On Wednesday, the university’s Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change will host a Mandela memorial at 3 p.m. in Heller Hall on the West Bank.
