If there is one place to find a different take on the plain old hot dog, it is at the Minnesota State Fair. Dipped in sweet batter, it suddenly becomes a pronto pup. Add onions and kraut, it becomes the famous footlong. But now there is another option.
It’s not just what bacon and what muffin you’re going to use for your breakfast sandwich. The uniform choice and the building design also matter. Blue Barn is the newest restaurant at the Minnesota State Fair. Stephanie Shimp, co-owner of Blue Plate Restaurant Group, says they’ve been trying to get into the fair for almost a decade. She tried to get in last year, but Mancini’s ended up winning the old Pizza Palace.
It appears all is running well on this first Saturday of the 2014 Minnesota State Fair. Spokesperson Brianna Schutte told WCCO’s Steve Thompson that she’s pleased, especially with the new transit hub location. Schutte says it’s making it even easier for fairgoers to get into, and out of the fair.
Never one to disappoint, the Minnesota State Fair rolled out 28 new foods for its 2014 run. While this is less than some years, it is still quite a number to tackle. The Minnesota State Fair will be opening in three weeks, and this Thursday WCCO got a look at one of their newest features – the West End Market. The area of the fairgrounds that houses the market used be called Heritage Square.
Minnesota State Fair officials have unveiled a $15 million project to replace its aging Heritage Square attraction. General Manager Jerry Hammer says it will be called “West End Market” and will open for the next year’s fair.
