Lynx Beat Sparks In Matchup Of West’s Top 2 Teams

Siemone Augustus scored 23 points to lead the Minnesota Lynx to a physical 83-74 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night in a matchup of the top two teams in the Western Conference. Maya Moore added 20 points for the Lynx, who pulled away in the second half to increase their lead over the Sparks in the standings to 2½ games.

Twins Beat Astros 9-6 In 12 innings

Clete Thomas scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the 12th inning and Darin Mastroianni added a two-run double, helping the Minnesota Twins beat the Houston Astros 9-6 on Tuesday night. Thomas reached on a fielder’s choice and went to third on Josmil Pinto’s double.

Lindsay Whalen scored 18 points while Maya Moore added 11 points and 10 rebounds to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 73-47 on Tuesday night. Minnesota (21-7) increased its lead to 1½ games over Los Angeles for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Sparks played later Tuesday night.

Brunson Leads Lynx In 91-77 Win Over Sun

Rebekkah Brunson had a season-high 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Lynx in a 91-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Thursday night. Seimone Augustus scored 18 points, Maya Moore had 17, Lindsay Whalen added 12 and Janel McCarville 11 for the Lynx (19-7), who shot a season-best 58 percent (38 for 66) from the floor. Minnesota pulled one game in front of Los Angeles for first place in the Western Conference.

Herrmann’s Late Double Lifts Twins Over Tigers 7-6

Chris Herrmann’s second RBI double of the game broke an eighth-inning tie and helped the Minnesota Twins to a 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. With two out, Herrmann lined a ball into the right-center field gap. Center fielder Austin Jackson got a bad break on the ball, and just missed while attempting a shoestring catch. Doug Bernier scored from second to give the Twins the lead.

Justin Morneau hit late two homers, including a grand slam, and the Minnesota Twins rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 7-5 in the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Friday. The White Sox traded Alex Rios to Texas before the game and were headed toward their fourth straight win before things turned in the seventh inning.

Andrew Albers allowed four hits while pitching into the ninth inning in his major league debut Tuesday night, easily outdueling Royals ace James Shields and leading the Minnesota Twins to a 7-0 victory over Kansas City. The first big leaguer from Saskatchewan in more than 20 years, Albers at one point retired 15 straight.

Brian Dozier hit a three-run home run, Mike Pelfrey and three relievers combined for a four-hitter and the Minnesota Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 on Saturday. Dozier had two hits and four RBIs, connecting off knuckleballer R.A. Dickey for his eighth homer as the Twins snapped a six-game skid and won for just the fourth time in 14 games.
