Best Family-Friendly St. Patrick's Day Events In Minnesota

St. Patrick's Day, March 17, falls on a Thursday this year. The Twin Cities has plenty of activities throughout the day that families with kids of all ages can enjoy. Here are five family-friendly St. Patrick's Day events that may interest you.

Celebrate mass before the parade. Regular Mass is at 7:30 a.m. The Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 4, a centuries-old order dedicated to the promotion of Irish heritage, sponsors a St. Patrick's Day Mass at 9:30 a.m. This annual event is well attended by members of the community. The Hibernians will serve brunch in the Hall of Angels, downstairs, after Mass around 10:30 a.m.

St. Paul's parade is especially family-friendly as St. Paul does not allow drinking in public. The parade officials keep motorized vehicles to a minimum and it does not allow signs for political office. For added fun, amass an Irish family and march in the parade. Line up on the streets surrounding 4th Street and 5th Street and between Sibley Street and Wacouta Street before 11:45 a.m. Then just follow the emerald green swath of paint down the center of the parade route. Greet the new 2016 Miss Shamrock at this year's spectacular 50th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

With four stages showcasing local and regional Irish music throughout the day, the 35th annual St. Patrick's Day Irish Celebration is bound to please even the pickiest of music lovers. The Irish Music & Dance Association has organized a splendid display of pipe bands, Irish dance, Irish Marketplace, Irish tea and scones, Irish beer, Celtic crafts, seminars on Irish music and language, children's stage and children's activities. The festival wraps around parade times, so your family can stop by the Landmark Center before or after the celebration.

"We are seeing the fourth generation of families marching in this year's 47th annual parade," organizer Sean Clerkin said. "We strive to be family oriented." Clerkin's entire family works hard at ensuring a fun time for everyone. Parade participants must register, pay a small fee and will line up by 12th Street at 7 p.m. Note the change in time and place of this year's parade due to construction on Nicollet Avenue.
