Labor Day is just around the corner, and perhaps you have yet to decide where you’d like to go to relax for the weekend. Last-minute plans can be difficult, but if you check out some of these locations, you may be able to get a hotel room and explore these unique areas. Get away from the bustle of city life and spend the long weekend relaxing before the children head back to school. You won’t regret it.

Duluth, Minn., provides visitors with a beautiful retreat roughly three hours from the Twin Cities. The Northern Rail Traincar Inn is a special vacation in its own right. The hotel itself, which is made out of old train cars, is a unique delight. While staying in the bed-and-breakfast type lodging, you can actually sleep in an old train car. Visitors can step outside the hotel room and hike through the woods, relax with a bonfire or spend some time on the shores of Lake Superior. The town of Two Harbors is located roughly 30 miles north of Duluth and a little more than three hours north of the Twin Cities.

Lanesboro, Minn., is known as “The Bed & Breakfast Capital of Minnesota,” and Brewster’s Red Hotel is one of the best hotels in town. The hotel is one of the most conveniently located in town, as it sits across the street from the Root River State Trail and the beautiful Root River itself. Consider sticking close to home this Labor Day with a trip to the Water Park of America. Located in Bloomington, Minn., the water park is less than a mile from the Mall of America and partners with a Radisson Hotel. The vacation resort offers water slides, raft rides, zero-depth pools, wave pools and plenty of other water features. Spend the day playing in the pool and relax in the evenings with a quick jaunt to the mall across the street.
