Parents prefer to bring their children to a hairdressing environment rather than a tattoo parlor, says owner Liana Peterson. Clients come from throughout the west metro for earlobe piercing. Liana prefers children no younger than 10. She stresses the importance of preparation by sterilizing the ear, sanitizing her hands and never touching the pre-packaged stainless steel earring or insertion gun. The earring must be cleaned in place two or three times per day for six to eight weeks. The hardest part, she says, is the urge to rub or scratch the wound during the healing process. Unwashed hands are the most likely way to introduce infection.
