Best Winter 2014-15 Art Events In Minnesota

While winters may be harsh in Minnesota, the creative flow never freezes. This year, some great events will be taking place throughout the winter to celebrate the artistic talent in Minnesota and feed the desire of the locals to enjoy and appreciate art. Galleries remain open throughout the year and even host special events during the winter months to keep the art junkies happy. Visual arts and musical talent are showcased monthly and each event is a different way to appreciate a different form of art. Don't give in to cabin fever this winter, venture out to one of these fantastic events.

The Italian fashion designers of 1945 helped start a revolution in Italy that created the center of the fashion world today. Enjoy an exhibit dedicated to the creativity and art of Italian designers such as Gucci, Versache and Prada. The trends that came out of the fashion boom in Milan have defined the standards of art among current designers. This exhibit was organized in Europe and comes to Minnesota for a short time only. Don't miss this unique and interesting art event.

What was once a three-day holiday boutique has evolved into a seasonal shop full of gifts and handcrafted items on display. Local artists showcase their crafts over two months to help get the Christmas shopping started and to appeal to those addicted to art fairs. Over 150 local artists are attending the Chickadee Boutique this year to promote their talents and offer a wide variety of gifts to browsers. Items range from pottery, jewelry, furniture and clothing to books and CDs. Get your art fair fix in at this annual event.

The First Saturday of each month always offers free admission to the galleries of the Walker Art Center, but this Saturday will include a celebration of the Walker's 75th anniversary. The gallery will be open for families and children to take part in activities that encourage an appreciation of art and creativity. Live entertainment will be on deck and cake will be served in the reception area for those in attendance. Enjoy a fun tour of one of the greatest landmarks in Minnesota and help support 75 more years of art in downtown Minneapolis.

A performing arts and musical experience, this event at the Soap Factory is one of many to bring a musical concert to a small venue. These concerts are produced by a group called Live Letters and have developed out of an idea to play "big" music in small and unique spaces. Both groups, Taj Raj and Fathom Lane, are from Minnesota and produce entertaining folk music and indie rock. The show will take place in the historic Soap Factory building, a venue that is an actual converted soap factory.

On the University of Minnesota Duluth campus, the Tweed Museum of Art offers a fun and educational art gallery for students and the community. The Tweed Museum will be featuring a studio ceramic exhibit that highlights some of the best pieces of pottery in the world. Visit the museum to see the works of over 77 different artists that range from local to international and discover a new appreciation for the art of ceramics.
