It’s a sweet tornado rolling through town. We think it’s fair to say frozen yogurt has exploded around the Twin Cities. If you have kids, you already know this. You walk in, there’s a wall of frozen treats to choose from. Then, you basically go through of a buffet line of toppings. From fresh fruit, to candy toppings, to even crazy toppings like cereal, pretzels and brownie chunks. Fill your bowl with whatever tastes make you happy. It’s healthier than ice cream (depending on what you top it with of course), you can customize them however you want, and trust us, the kids love it! Fro-Yo has taken over! Dara shares her Top 5 for your noshing pleasure.

Menchie’s is a national franchise and they specialize in kids. It’s all set up to be cute, it’s animated, there are movie tie-ins and your kids will love it. Think of it as a toy store for food. Menchie’s off Cleveland in St. Paul is Fro-Yo with a kid-friendly vibe!

Several Locations

Freestyle brings a California, surf board theme to Frozen Yogurt. Even with the So Cal look, it’s a homegrown chain. They also do a good job for the dairy-free people out there with a lot of sorbet choices. There are four locations, most in the east metro including Hudson, WI.

Another homegrown, Mom-And-Pop shop on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, Trüberry does a fabulous job with Fro-Yo. Dara loves their “plain flavors the most”. The marscapone is mellow and rich and the blood orange has a great citrus-y clarity to it. Try Trüberry in St. Paul!

Yogurt Lab
Several Locations

Number one on Dara’s list is the place you’ve probably seen the most. It’s another homegrown “chain” with many locations now throughout the Twin Cities. It has a mad scientist vibe with a “periodic table” of flavors on the wall and the mod-science look to the stores. What sets it apart? The toppings are almost endless and they’re really the freshest of the bunch. The fruit is always bright and delicious. That’s what puts Yogurt Lab at the top of the list in Twin Cities Fro-Yo’s!
