We’d bet Thanksgiving is equally split between those who go for the stuffing and turkey (the savory folks) and those who are just in it for the pie (sweet tooth). If you’re one of the latter, or if you’re just wanting to bring pie everywhere you go Thanksgiving weekend, you need to know the top bakery pies in the Twin Cities. You’re in luck. We have amazing bakeries in the Twin Cities and Dara found you the best. Here they are, the Top 5 Thanksgiving Pies to-go!
Sarah Jane’s Bakery
2853 Johnson St NE
Minneapolis, MN 55418
Number five is Sarah Jane’s in Northeast Minneapolis and is easily the most affordable on the list, starting at about $12. You’ll get all the classics: French Silk, Coconut Cream, Rhubarb Custard, and on and on. It’s old-fashioned pie at an old-fashioned price at Sarah Jane’s.
4600 Nicollet Ave.
Minneapolis, MN 55419
Number four on Dara’s list is a newcomer, Sunstreet Breads on the corner of 46th and Nicollet in South Minneapolis. Solveig Tofte is the baker behind Sunstreet, and as I’m sure you can guess from her name, she brings a Scandinavian bend to pies along with some wonderful new ideas. Caramel Apple Pie, Malted Pecan Pie are just two of the unique sweets you can expect. Make sure you order by November 25th at Sunstreet in order to get them in time for your Thanksgiving Dinner!
2928 W 66th St.
Richfield, MN 55423
Next up is another classic bakery, Patrick’s in Richfield. Patrick does “classic” French baking and has talents the likes of which mere mortals like us can only dream of. Good thing we can buy his pies. Cranberry Meringue, Chocolate-Bourbon Pecan and then a couple of riffs on Pumpkin Pie can make you the star of your Thanksgiving if you show up with these in hand. You can order through November 26th.
612 Selby Ave.
St Paul, MN 55102
Dara loves Bars and for good reason. They use a lot of local ingredients and it makes them stand out. You can get a Bourbon-Pecan Pie, a delicious Banana Cream Pie, all with local Hope Creamery Butter! Hurry though because you can only order Bars’ pies through November 24th!
3311 E 25th St.
Minneapolis, MN 55406
Number one on Dara’s List is Birchwood Cafe. These pies will make you really stand out from the crowd. The Ginger-Cranberry-Pear Pie is zingy, tangy, fruity and super intense. You can find bad Key Lime Pie or you can try the best. Birchwood’s Key Lime is fluffy and light with perfect sweetness to it. Plus, everything they make can be ordered Gluten-Free which is great for taking with you to the family gathering where you’d worry about some gluten sensitivities.
