Harteau Named Assistant PD Chief In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A woman with 23 years on the Minneapolis Police Department is being appointed as assistant chief.

Janee Harteau's appointment ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday in City Council chambers.

Harteau joined the department in 1987 as a patrol officer and worked her way up the ranks, including jobs in narcotics, organized crime and a gang units supervisor.

She has also commanded the crime lab. And in 2006, she was appointed as inspector of the first precinct. There, she helped create public and private partnerships to help make downtown Minneapolis safer.

In September 2009 she was promoted to deputy chief of the patrol bureau, where she has been responsible for all of the department's emergency response personnel.
