MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Workers at the Metrodome have intentionally ruptured another panel in the building’s damaged roof.

Pat Milan, a spokesman for the commission that runs the Dome, says a shotgun slug was fired into the panel because the weight of ice was creating a safety issue.

It’s the fifth panel that has torn or been torn since a winter storm caused the roof to give way eight days ago.

Milan says engineers are watching some other panels that might need the same treatment to keep workers safe.

Milan says the commission hopes to know more about a timetable for repairing the roof by the time it meets Wednesday morning. The roof failure has forced the Vikings to play the Bears Monday night at TCF Bank Stadium.

    Are metrodome roofs in season?

  2. Krissi says:

Does anyone else remember the mythbusters episode where they proved that bullets fired up in the air come back down with lethal force…?

    1. david says:

i agree unless it just stoped in the snow

    2. Tim says:

how does one know what type of projectile was used, possibly a rubber bullet…

    3. John says:

they found that bullets fall sideways, and not at lethal force. and also the ice would have either stopped or greatly slowed the bullet.

  3. diana says:

You know you can’t make this stuff up!

  4. Bob says:

Further proof that shooting fixes everything.

  5. Todd says:

“… Its is the second week of deer camp, and all the Wikes are here, we slip and fall and shoot some slugs, but never shoot no deer…”

  6. Bruce says:

    hopefully they shot straight up.
    did anyone hear the shot?

  7. James says:

When will there be an investigation into the MSFC? These guys are a bunch of cowboy maverics who have their head burried so far up their own robin holes they can’t tell if they’re coming or going. The person who used a shotgun needs to be arrested or fined and the entire group needs to be turned over immediately, starting with Macki.

    1. Bob says:

James, do you ever listen to yourself. I bet not cause you sound like an idiot…..

    2. Jon Lindquist says:

I wonder if we should also investigate James’s thinking processes, they sure seem to defy logic.

if they hadn’t shot the roof, it could have opened anyways and killed someone!

  8. at says:

Did it take this long to fix the dome the three other times it deflated? I have no doubt they are creating some delays to help the stadium debate but it seems like it is taking longer than it should to fix this.

  9. markH says:

If God existed, he’d be a Viking’s fan.

  10. matt says:

James. sounds like your head is up your robin hole.

  11. A says:

Why are they spending all this time and money trying to fix this place?!?!? Just tear it down!

  12. The Crux of the Biscuit says:

James of probably from Wisc. or maybe Iowa, nuf said….

  13. question says:

Can they just scrap the dome roof and build a real roof?

  14. Jerry says:

God is a very depressed Vikings fan.

  15. SI says:

Shotguns don’t shoot bullets, they shoot shells that hold “shot” (llittle pellets) that probably wouldn’t hurt if they did fall back on you. Also, I doubt that they stood directly under what they were shooting at because, personally, I wouldn’t want to get hit by a falling block of ice.

    1. Reverend says:

Shotguns also shoot slugs, which the article mentions.

  16. educate says:

thanks SI, I was just about to educate all these people on here. shot from a shotgun shell weigh hardly anything, plus there range is minimal.

    1. THEIR says:

The article specifically mentions that they fired a shotgun slug.
