3 Minnesota Catholic Schools To Close

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Three Catholic schools in Minnesota are closing at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis announced Friday.

The move, which will affect more than 100 students, is due to a lack of long term -term sustainability.

The schools are St. Joseph School of Red Wing, San Miguel Middle School of Minneapolis and St. Mathias School of Hampton.

"The closing of a school is always difficult," said Marty Frauenheim, Superintendent of Catholic Schools. "The Archdiocese is working closely with school leaders to ease the transition for affected families."

Priests, principals and other leaders at the schools made the decision after an urgent review process that began in October 2010.

After the closings, there will be 95 Catholic schools within the Archdiocese.
