St. Kate's Library Program Gets National Nod

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The master's degree program in library and information science at St. Catherine University in St. Paul has received a national accreditation that will make it easier for the program's graduates to work outside the state.

The university says the program recently received the accreditation from the American Library Association, making it the only such program in Minnesota to receive the recognition. Only 57 programs nationally have it.

Program director Deborah Grealy says a degree from an accredited university is often required for jobs at colleges and universities and will make it easier for graduates to find jobs in other states. It also makes St. Kate's students eligible for more scholarships.

The university began the process of seeking ALA accreditation in 2008.
