Bill Aims To OK Bottle Sales At Minn. Wine Fests

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota wineries are seeking state permission to sell bottles at wine festivals.

Legislation introduced this week at the state Capitol would permit alcohol regulators to issue temporary liquor licenses in conjunction with annual festivals. It goes beyond tastings, free samples or sales by the glass.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. John Howe, a Red Wing Republican who has some vineyards in his district.

The bottle sale request could run into opposition from liquor stores over concerns about competition and precedent.
