Curiocity: 'Glee' Is Coming To Minneapolis
In May of 2009, the world was introduced to a little show about an up-and-coming glee club in Lima, Ohio. Having been packaged as a musical/comedy-drama television series, brimming with Broadway performances, the audience that awaited the premiere was more than skeptical -- including me.
As I sat in my living room, waiting for the Fox show to start, I kept my blinds closed, didn't dare admit to friends who called what I was doing and quietly waited for what I assumed would be a joke of a show. To my pleasant and, yes I'll say it, life-changing surprise, "Glee" was everything and more than I could even imagine.
Beyond the perfectly executed show-stopping performances of some of Broadway's best, the show masters the delicate balance of heart, humor and total guilty pleasure. Yes, it's cheesy, and yes, some scenes will definitely make you roll your eyes, but what other show has the power to entice its viewers to keep its soundtrack on repeat, while immediately re-watching key performances?
"Glee" is a show unlike any other and while many bash the show for its over-the-top qualities, any naysayer clearly hasn't even given it a chance. Musicals are certainly not for everyone and as my boyfriend points out, watching a middle-aged man perform rap songs can be an uncomfortable viewing at times but when the show is in its prime, it has the ability to suck you in and refuse to let go.
Erase any comparisons you might be making to Disney shows or "High School Musical" films. For all the fun and fluff "Glee" can be, it also has a serious bite. Most of the words that spew out of Sue Slyvester's (Jane Lynch) mouth are both hysterically evil and deliciously written. The discourse between Glee clubbers bounces easily from light-hearted stereotyping to downright hilarious "teenage" hormonal inner dialogues.
It's this perfect-pitch success that will most definitely make the "Glee" Tour a success when it stops by Minneapolis this summer. That's right, "Glee" Tour. Target Center. Minneapolis. June 1. Oh. My. Glee.
The 16-city tour returns this summer to perform your favorite "Glee" numbers live. "Glee Live! In Concert" includes all the stars -- Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike) and, yes, even hunky newcomers Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine).
Some of the most memorable musical numbers will be performed like, "Empire State of Mind," "Toxic" and of course, "Don't Stop Believin'."
