Minnesota Ranks Low On Couch Potato List

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A federal study suggests that Minnesota has fewer "couch potatoes" than many states.
The Centers for Disease Control says Minnesota is one of seven states where a low number of residents are inactive during their leisure time.
Just why is anyone's guess. Some might suggest it's those TV spots for the "Do Campaign" -- the ones with the man dancing in a doctor's office.
Pam Lux is with Blue Cross-Blue Shield, sponsor of the pro-exercise campaign.
"While we wouldn't claim to be the only factor, we do have research that shows that the "Do Campaign" and its messages of simple movement is working," said Lux.
Estimates for inactivity were issued for every county in the country. Ramsey County had a low percentage of couch potatoes -- 14 percent -- while some counties in the deep south were close to 30 percent.
