Emergency Room Confession Leads To Molestation Charges

By Adam Carter, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Mankato man is charged with five felonies after he allegedly confessed to emergency room workers that he'd been having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy.

According to the Blue Earth County Attorney, 46-year-old James Daniel Kirlin was hospitalized last September after he had overdosed on allergy medication. That's when Blue Earth Assistant County Attorney Mike Hanson said Kirlin made the confession.

The case was handed over to Mankato Police, who interviewed the alleged victim, who is mentally impaired. The boy allegedly told police the sexual contact with Kirlin began when he was 15 years old.

Kirlin was charged this week with five felonies, including two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He had not entered a plea yet, and his next court appearance is March 10.
