MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A human skull was found in a Minneapolis park early Sunday afternoon, according to the Minneapolis Park Police.

Lt. Mark Swanson says walkers discovered what appeared to be a human skull near the Minnehaha Falls off-leash dog park. It was found in a wet area where there is a natural spring.

NewsRadio 830 WCCO’s Susie Jones Reports

The skull was turned over to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner where a forensic anthropologist did determine it was a human skull. However, they said it will take more time to attempt to determine the age, sex and race.

How would you feel if it was a family member of yours that was missing and all these people were making fun and you are sitting at home hoping your family member is still alive. I mean really. How old are you people?

    1. Sandy Anderson-Toody says:

well said UNREAL how some are so cold hearted!! Some day something will happen that will directly impact them and maybe then they will wake up and have RESPECT, AND COMPASSION for others!! Seems like all the praying for people to change and love rather than hate is a prayer that will take several lifetimes people are getting worse. SCARY WORLD TO LIVE IN WITH THESE TYPES OF PEOPLE. Thank you A human you reminded me there are a few good people left in this world!!

    2. Jo says:

Compassion, people. Let’s conjure some up.

    3. LAURA says:

You could not have said it better. People are so rude. Thank you!!

  2. disapppointed in some people says:

I agree, thats just so dumb, the insensitive remarks made by some of these commentators. Trying to be funny? There are alot of families out there missing loved ones, and I feel for them.

  3. Dee says:

I totally agree with “human”. You people need to grow up! I cannot believe how some human beings can be so cruel and vulgar, and I wish ‘CCO wouldn’t even allow the comment section on these stories. Most of the people that comment never have any thing nice, comforting or caring to say and most comments are uncalled for. You certainly don’t have anything to be proud of.

  5. Sarah in Outstate MN says:

This is terrible. I truly do not like the current state of humanity.

  6. Warehouse says:

Hey “gmoney” what is your comment implying? by the sounds of your comments it makes me think maybe you had something to do with this? I really hope thats the case and the Police do some investigating and bust your butt.

  7. Iconoclast says:

I have heard of kids playing at occult stuff down it that area. Maybe it’s just an old medical skull that someone brought down there for that kind of thing.

  8. Ralphose says:

  9. Wendell in Mpls says:

A skull found. A year old, a century old, a million years old.
might even be from a grave that was tossed or a shallow one from eons ago that a dog dug up. It happens.
Why is this place all worked up?

  10. Kristy Folz says:

I am a person whom has a family member missing! We sit and wait daily for any news about him, his car, or remains to be found that might give us some closure. He went missing in the Minneapolis area. I hope that something like this never happens to any of you who are incensitive, because you would be aweful support for those around you who maybe be suffering like we are.

I have been studying the Camp Coldwater area since 1985. I also grew up there as a boy living a few blocks away. I am not sure where exactly this skull was found yet. native American artifacts have been found in the area that go back at least 2000 yrs near the spring. When Ft Snelling was being built in 1820 they found an eight ft. tall skeleton where the Fort was built. During 1827 Dakota Indians attacked Ojibway Indians below the fort. The Ojibway were allowed later to let Dakota run for there life while Ojibway fired at them. A total of 4 Dakota were then killed by the Ojibway, dismembered, then when done, threw the dismembered bodies over the cliff by the fort. It is possible this is what was found. The names of all are recorded in history. There were other battles between Dakota and Ojibway Indians at camp Coldwater, but history has then recored as beingtaken back to village or buried at the Fort cemetary.
