It happened just before noon Thursday when a postal worker discovered a suspicious package. The evacuation notice was sent in a University of Minnesota emergency alert text message.
Patty Mattern, a university spokesperson, said about 30 minutes later an "all clear" text was sent out. It ended up being a cell phone inside the package.
Church Street on the University's East Bank campus was temporarily closed from Pillsbury to Washington Avenue.
Morrill Hall is home to the office of the University president and other administrators.
