Charges: Girl Creates Facebook Page, Mom Whips Her

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) -- A West St. Paul mother is accused of whipping her daughter with an electrical cord after the girl allegedly created a Facebook page against her wishes.

According to charges filed in Dakota County, 40-year-old Rocio Rodriguez Nava is also accused of slapping her 14-year-old daughter across the face multiple times.

The girl told police she had been hit so hard, she was bleeding from the mouth. She said her mother became angry at her for not cleaning her room.

When Nava was placed under arrest outside her daughter's school, she told police that she "lost control of herself" after discovering a Facebook page her daughter created, even though her mother forbade it.

Nava admitted to hitting her daughter with the cord and slapping her.

The girl sustained multiple welts on her upper thigh and arms. She has been placed in foster care.

Nava faces one gross misdemeanor count of malicious punishment of a child. She could face up to a year in prison and a $3,000 fine if convicted.
