Minn. DNR Launches Free Apps For Mobile Devices

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Department of Natural Resources says finding outdoor fun in Minnesota is easier than ever now that the agency has launched a handful of free new applications for mobile devices.

Steve Lime, DNR data and applications manager, says the agency started with a simple fall colors mobile web page last October that turned out to be very popular.

Last year, the DNR web site had 1.3 million page views by mobile devices.

Its mobile LakeFinder app with data for more than 4,500 lakes and rivers already has had nearly 3,000 installs based solely on word of mouth. The snowmobile trail GPS map files have been downloaded more than 3,000 times. Another new app, useful to hunters, offers GPS data for all state wildlife management areas.
