MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The real work of replacing the Metrodome’s damaged roof has begun.

The first three diamond-shaped panels are being stretched and clamped into place, a process that takes about a day for each panel.

The inside of the Dome resembled a construction zone on Friday, with beeping machinery and lifts to handle the work. Meltwater from the most recent snowfall dripped through three sections that had been removed to prepare for the new panels.

It was a December snowstorm that caused the Dome roof to fail. Insurance is covering most of the replacement cost, and the work will continue six days a week in an effort to finish by Aug. 1, ahead of the Vikings’ season.

Gee do ya think? Absolutely brilliant to come up with the same solution every other minnesotan came up with on dec 18th! ha

    1. Bub says:

Fix the three, now how many old ones are left that WILL fail?

  2. Carol says:

With all the unemployment and homeless people in this ecomony let the Vikes kick in the funds to repair their dome. After all they will benefit more than anyone else on the repairs!

    1. John says:

Really…. You didn’t read the article did you? Insurance is paying the cost.

      1. Carol says:

Yes I did thank you…and I still feel they should pay for it…

        1. Miguel says:

Carol, do you even know what insurance is?

    2. Mikey says:

      Hey Carol,

Next time you get into an auto accident, make sure you tell your insurance company that you don’t want them to pay anything; you’ll kick in your own funds to repair your car. After all, you will benefit more than anyone else on the repairs!

  3. Mikey says:

So, it’s going to take most of the summer to repair the dome. Insurance is paying for it so I really don’t care about the cost; might as well put some people to work.

My big question is this: What in the world would the Twins have done for a ballpark all summer if they didn’t have the new Target Field?

Note I’m NOT asking this rhetorically, not trying to spur a debate on a new Vikes stadium or using that question as an argument; I’m honestly wondering where we would have played? Split some home games between Milwaukee, Chicago and KC? What’s the capacity of the Saints Stadium?

  4. Mike says:

Carol – it’s not THEIR dome, do you even live here? If so, do you ever read? Or just assume things?

  5. tiredandretired says:

This is the perfect solution, considering the economy. Forget a new stadium, Vikes, unless your owner wants to pay for it himself. Be glad you have a place to play.

    Go Vikings !!

    1. Trev says:

      Get your own checkbook out.

    2. DeadHorseBeater says:

Listen Nestor, I need a new swimming pool.
      Go Me!!

      1. Jeff says:

        Dear Trev,

So why is it that everyone has to pay for the homeowners who homes were foreclosed on? Remember – those folks were “entitled” to a new or remodeled home!

At least with a NEW stadium everyone gets to enjoy it!

  7. Buck Knuckler says:

I also hear the Vikes are in discussion with JaMarcus Russell

    1. Cup Buckler says:

You shut your mouth when you are talking to me.

  8. No stadium says:

Well, as long as we aren’t taking the old stadium down, it’s probably very certain that we are not going to get a new stadium anytime soon!

  9. gg says:

so now it is the whole roof, not just a fix? interesting, I’m surprised it took this long to get a decision on this. how many pigeons now live in the dome? yuck. the dome is good for lots of things other than professional football. most visitors to the dome each year are there for events other than vikings football. it is a good building, with much to offer the community before we make the decision to destroy by leveling her.

  10. Annette says:

I agree with gg. I run and roller blade there now and in the winter it is great. Lots of other folks there as well. Before this year, I used to watch the Gopher Baseball team plat. Great game and only 5 dollars. Oh yes, you could sit whereever you liked as well. No price gouging!

  11. Tom says:

New or old stadium, they never win. I’ve been wanted they to win since several years ago but they don’t play hard enough like other team. Still want they to win those.

  12. NO NEW STADIUM says:

How about have everyone who wants a new stadium can donate the funds for it.
I dont use it. the last time I was at the dome was about 15 years ago. I never go to functions there and anyone who doesn’t use the place should not have to pay for it. What would I benefit from it? Not a damn thing. How about have the players take a pay cut or ask each player pay a portion of it. Do they really need to make millions of dollars each year to run back and forth. And why should they get a new stadium? when was the last time they even went to the super bowl? A new stadium is not going to help their game. if they want to win maybe they should quit blaming the coaches when they lose. maybe they can blame themselves for drafting thug drug dealers and criminals. If you people want a new stadium so bad pay for it yourself. I have more important things to pay for. My family is more important than a gad damn football stadium.
    BTW…… GO PACKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. JEL says:

I couldn’t have said it better myself!!! And you know just as well as I do that a bunch of people are going to be mad at you for saying so. But it’s the truth. I am a hard working person and I work hard to pay for what my family NEEDS. I already get taxed enough. Maybe the OWNER OF THE STADIUM SHOULD PAY FOR IT.

    2. Nestor says:

drug dealers and criminals……? typical packer fan.
      GO VIKINGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
