460 Minn. National Guard Soldiers Deploy To Kuwait

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota National Guard says 460 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery are preparing to go on a one-year deployment in the Middle East.

A deployment ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at New Ulm Middle School. While deployed, the soldiers will be stationed throughout Kuwait.

The Guard says they will be responsible for providing base security and securing the convoys of troops, equipment and supplies throughout Iraq.

It will be the third recent deployment for the battalion. They supported a security mission in Europe in 2003-2004 and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2007.
