ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Three Twin Cities lock and dams have been closed to recreational boats due to increasingly high water in the Mississippi River.

The closed facilities include the Upper St. Anthony Falls and Lower St. Anthony Falls lock and dams in downtown Minneapolis and Lock and Dam 1 next to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis. They closed at noon Tuesday.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in St. Paul is required to close the dams because high flows in the Mississippi River are unsafe for recreational boaters. Recent snow thaw and rain upstream is creating even more water.
